AWI Statements on Animals in Research

For over sixty years, the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) has been advocating for better care, handling and housing for animals in research. AWI publishes books on refinement techniques and articles in the AWI Quarterly, maintains an on-line discussion group for laboratory personnel interested in refinement and enrichment, lobbies for needed protections including funding for enforcement, and provides grants to improve the housing and handling of animals in research.

AWI has provided expert testimony and made presentations to myriad audiences including Congressional Committees and scientific organizations including those listed below:

Comments to the National Institutes of Health on Regulatory Burden (May 1999)

Statement to the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Support of Written Records of Veterinary Care (June 2003)

Statement Before the Committee to Update the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (September 2008)
