Dog Fighting Prohibition Act

A bill to further empower federal prosecutors to pursue individuals – including spectators – engaged in all aspects of dog fighting.

This legislation increases maximum penalties to include up to five years in federal prison.  The bill has been announced as public awareness about the cruelty of dog fighting is at an all-time high, following the Michael Vick case.

What you can do:

  • H.R. 3219 - Sponsors: Representative Betty Sutton (D-OH)

  • S. 1880 - Sponsor: Senator John Kerry (D-MA)

UPDATE:  Senator John Kerry (D-MA) was able to include language in the 2007 FARM Bill to strengthen penalties and enhances law enforcements abilities to pursue individuals involved in dog fighting.  We must now wait for the House and Senate conferees to come up with a final version of the FARM Bill before its final passage.
