AWI Calls on Kerzner International to
Halt Completion of Atlantis Dolphinarium (pdf)
November 17, 2005:
Kerzner International Group recently announced the creation of Kerzner
Marine Foundation whose mission is to "to foster the preservation
and enhancement of global marine ecosystems through scientific
research, education and community outreach." At the same time,
Kerzner is completing its latest Atlantis resort in the Bahamas,
including a captive dolphin facility. Wild dolphins typically range
over 40 miles every day and are highly social animals. To place these
sentient animals in a tank is the equivalent of a human being confined
in a small closet. AWI has written to Solomon Kerzner, Chairman of
the Group urging him to reconsider the decision in line with the
Foundation's stated mission. |

Abolish the Dolphin Slaughter
October 8th 2005:
AWI coordinated an October 8th rally against the brutal slaughter of
1000's of dolphins every year by Japanese drive fisheries. On the
stroke of 12 noon in 40 cities across the globe, masses of dolphin
defenders gathered outside Japanese embassies and consulates in
peaceful protest against this unnecessary barbarism. As a follow-on
to this effort, AWI is working with the scientific communities in
opposition to the drive hunts. We are also urging captive aquaria
associations to act against the practice. |
