About the Cover Emmy award winning cinematographer Ginger Kathrens has dedicated her life to documenting the lives of animals. Kathrens founded the Wild Horse and Burro Freedom Alliance, of which AWI is a member, to protect and preserve wild horses through education and advocacy. One issue currently of major importance to the Alliance is horse slaughter. In 1971 Congress passed the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act, championed by Velma Johnson, better known as "Wild Horse Annie," specifically to protect the wild horse. However, 31 years later, horses are still being removed overzealously from their land by the very agency tasked to protect them (the Bureau of Land Management) with many subsequently sent to slaughter by individuals who adopted them under false pretences. The fate of this filly (Mahogany), her mother, and all other horses will remain precarious unless action is taken immediately to ensure no more horses are slaughtered. Directors Officers Scientific
